Producer Spotlight:

Bosio

In Santo Stefano Belbo, the productive heart of the Langhe, the Bosio family has been producing wine for three generations.

The grapes are cultivated in the more than 30 hectares of their property and selected from more than 150 historical vine-growers, whose vine-growing estate counts more than 700 hectares in the most vocated areas of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato.

Bosio assiduously follows the work in the vineyard and is fully involved in the vinification of the grapes, whose quality is enhanced through simple and traditional winemaking. The most modern technologies are at the service of varietal expressiveness, which is also emphasized thanks to indigenous yeast strains selected from the individual territories.

Bosio is the classic expression of Piedmont, rural tradition meeting the innovation of a contemporary winery. It offers a wide and representative range of wines that, from Barolo to Gavi, demonstrates the incredible expressive variety of a land recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

About Bosio

HISTORY

OF LAND, VINE AND FAMILY

It was 1967 when Egidio Bosio and his wife Angela decided to devote themselves to wine.

Egidio is a far-sighted, hard-working farmer who sensed the potential of his hills when Piedmontese wine was still in its infancy. He began cultivating and winemaking the family’s small plots of land in Val Bera, a side valley in the town of Santo Stefano Belbo, famous for being the birthplace of writer Cesare Pavese.

The winery is located not far from Valdivilla, in the productive heart of the Muscat Hills, an area of dizzying scenic beauty and rows as far as the eye can see, where the cultivation of vines requires immense manual effort because of the prohibitive slopes.

After a lifetime spent among the vineyards, Egidio handed over to his son Valter a small vineyard heritage and boundless passion for the land.

The first major turning point occurs starting in the 1980s. Valter expands the vineyard property on the hills of Castiglione Tinella, Mango, Costigliole d’Asti and Castagnole delle Lanze and, at the same time, creates fiduciary relationships with dozens of vintners from Langhe, Roero and Monferrato who begin to grow grapes on behalf of the Bosio family according to dictates that reward quality and manual processing.

In the meantime, the winery modernized, equipping itself with the best winemaking and sparkling wine technologies so that it could follow all grape processing firsthand, from conferring to bottling to final packaging.

Working assiduously alongside Valter Bosio is his wife Rosella, a companion in life and adventures, a point of reference for the winery, who has always been actively involved in administration and logistics.

In recent years, Valter’s son Luca Bosio, an oenology graduate, also joined the company. The new face of the winery together with his wife Valentina, Luca is actively involved in overseeing winery operations and wine marketing, with a particular focus on foreign markets.

Today the Bosio family’s wines represent the Piedmont of wine. A potential of more than 700 hectares from the most vocated hills of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato. An unparalleled winemaking heritage that includes all the major appellations in the region and is vinified on the basis of Egidio’s teachings: selection of the best grapes and plots; impeccable quality control along the entire supply chain; simple, traditional processes that leave room for the true expression of the land, which he loved and cultivated all his life.
