Producer Spotlight:

Bigi

The first headquarters of the Casa Vinicola Bigi was the former convent of “La Trinità” in Orvieto, an ancient Franciscan monastery confiscated by the Italian State in 1870. In order to provide the best possible production facilities, in 1972 Bigi moved to the modern winery situated in Ponte Giulio, not far from the ancient town of Orvieto. The property’s vineyards (248 ha) are located in the “classico” zone, the oldest, of the Orvieto DOC, 55% under white grape vines, and are situated on hilly, mainly clay ground at 150-450 metres altitude. Inspired by the potential of its region, over the years Bigi has obtained truly enviable results, and not only with Orvieto Classico.

About Bigi

Umbria, “the green heart of Italy”, the crossroads between the north and the south, between the Adriatic Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea, is a land where wine has been produced since Etruscan times. Inspired by the potential of its territory, Bigi has obtained truly enviable results, especially with its Orvieto Classico, of which it has been one of the most prestigious producers for many years. Thanks to the skilful work of its winemakers and to the wide availability of 145 hectares of vineyard, the winery has diversified its product range. It not only makes classic white wines such as Orvieto Classico, Grechetto and Est!Est !!Est!!! but also some highly interesting red wines using Sangiovese grapes of Umbria, made from the single grape variety or blended with other grape varieties.
