Valle dell’Acate is located in the “Contrade” of Biddini Soprana and Biddini Sottana, within the sinuous hills outlined by the Dirillo river, in Ragusa province. Valle dell’Acate preserves farming knowledge of generations of agricultural entrepreneurs, the great love for their soil and the care for excellence of a great family. It was Giuseppe Jacono that started wine production, opening the winery at the end of XIX century, when Vittoria was in Sicily the most active center of Frappato wine export toward the French market. His vocation has been protected and conveyed till today and in the last decades specialized in cultivation of native grapes more characterizing and with the highest potential, such as Frappato and Cerasuolo di Vittoria (a blend of Nero D’Avola and Frappato).
The Acate farmland is located in the triangle corner in south-east Sicily defined by Comiso, Vittoria and Acate. This sweet and at the same time harsh landscape reveals fertile hilly areas that gently slope toward low, uniform coastes, embroidered by the white dry stone walls that delimit fields till the sandy dunes and the cliffs of the crystal clear sea. This unique natural context hosts the baroque art of the beautiful cities recognized as world heritage sites by UNESCO.
Valle dell’Acate morphology features seven different soil kinds, a precious natural asset cared for and enhanced by fifty years in field experimentations, both empirical and analytical, that indicated the most suitable and characterizing soil for each grape to give the best wine. Each strip of land peculiarities are respected and promoted and give the name to the project “Seven soils for seven wines.”
