On the Bolgherese provincial road, in the heart of the best production of Bolgheri wines, the Folonari family cultivates about 7 hectares of Merlot destined for the production of Baia al Vento. A vineyard characterised by soils rich in minerals and iron that give structure, elegance and abundance of aroma. The Merlot grapes from Vallone dei Messi are very pleasant on the palate and characterised by a dense structure and the typical sensations of ripe red fruit that evolve and enrich through long refinement times.
Vintage: The 2020 vintage was characterised by a basically cold period between April and May and a generally hot and dry weather until July. The slight delay in the vegetative phase was recovered in the summer. The rapid increase in temperatures, especially for the late grape varieties, the fruit set stage of which was not finished yet, has favoured a production resulting in clusters with small berries. The stable and sunny weather in August and September allowed the grapes to reach full ripeness in optimal
conditions.
Tasting: Clear and lively purple-red colour, intense aroma characterised by hints of ripe cherry, currant, blackberry, chocolate and balsamic notes of tobacco. Dry, full-bodied and persistent on the palate with sweet and silky tannins. A complex and majestic wine.
Pairing: Our “Villa di Nozzole” suggests to pair the wine with stewed wild boar with chanterelles and blueberries, served on a polenta from Garfagnana
